Risk management measures to keep your business finances safe online

"We want to help our customers stay safe online, where scammers and fraudsters are a real threat.”
Renae Ferguson, Head of Risk and Compliance, Budgetly

Our Head of Risk and Compliance, Renae Ferguson, supports customers through necessary Compliance Reviews during onboarding, as well as working closely with our highly skilled product and technical experts to support security and build robust risk controls. We asked her what she wanted customers to know:

"We want to help our customers stay safe online, where scammers and fraudsters are a real threat.”

Here are few key risk management measures to protect yourself and your business:

  • Always create a strong password (at least 12 characters, with a random mix of letters, numbers, special characters and both lower and upper case).

  • Always keep your password in safe location or "vault" (a password manager like Dashlane or 1Password is a good choice).

  • Always use Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) for extra login security.

  • Never use the same password for different accounts (if one account is hacked, your other accounts remain safe).

  • Always make sure you know and be careful who you give Administrator privileges to (!)

  • Limit the number of Administrators on your account (fewer people with access means less chance of a security breach).

  • Never share your password with anyone, no matter what.

  • Never provide personal or account information to a caller over the phone, call the Budgetly support team to make sure you are talking to us!

  • Always double-check the sender's email address and mobile number when asked to take action (if in doubt, contact our support team).

  • Always return the call using the official phone number when a caller, who claims to represent Budgetly, asks for sensitive personal or account information.

  • Never enter your login details into any app other than our official Budgetly mobile app and web app budgetly.io (if in doubt always double check the url for even the slightest misspelling).

  • Always keep your mobile device and computer secure and don’t let anyone else have access to it.

Importantly, let us know as soon as you become aware of any of these things:

  • Spotted any unauthorised transactions on your Budgetly account.

  • Lost your device and it doesn’t have a passcode or there’s a security breach on your device.

  • You have been caught up in another organisation’s data breach and you’ve been informed your personal information, which is likely the same information used on your Budgetly profile, has been disclosed.

If we are all using these simple measures to secure our Budgetly account, the scammers and hackers won't stand a chance.

Keep an eye out for anything unusual and remember it's better to be safe than sorry- just reach out to our support team if unsure, we're happy to help!
